Let your emotion speak.

, , , , ,

As I have already mentioned before, I’ve been following Chris Oatley‘s podcast, and a few days ago I ran into an interview with Pascal Campion.

It makes me feel like I’ve been missing out so much during all these years of drawing.

“Live your life. Don’t stay in front of a computer 24hrs/day 7days/week. Go out. Explore. Fall in love. Have your heart broken. Go meet people. Travel, take a trip to the moon if you can. All those experiences are going to be your energy, your supply to put into your work. It’s not just about the visual impact, it’s about the feeling, the smell, the emotion. It will help your art, and you as a person to grow.
You’re an artist, you are here to help other people live through you. You are here to help other people look at your art to travel, escape, dream, hope.” – Pascal Campion.

Seriously, I read his blog everyday.

So here it begins, doodling with emotions. Although I bet that nobody can be as romantic as he is 😀

I have drawn comics with emotions before, but this time, I’m challenge myself to make one single painting. A painting to show how I remember it, how i felt when I heard something when needed; when I had so much fun doing crazy things; when I experienced a new emotion.

You can see how Pascal Campion heavily influenced me 😛 But I want to be more bold with colors and light like he is, and be more conscious about composition. So baby steps. 🙂

_Hey guys, let’s hold hands!

_Looks like we are summoning Satan..

_*Giggles* Just missing Yhenda (our cat)

*Next song plays*

_Oh man, this song is perfect!

_ I see dancing elephants…

_Yeah, I do too!

_Good night!

_Good night

_…Why is it so hard to let you go…

Have you ever felt something so intense it makes your head spin, turns your guts up side down, urges you to throw up?

I had. And it was terrible. I can even recall it by looking at this.

Painting with emotions – It makes you feel that feelings all over again, makes you smile, makes you cry. It makes you feel vulnerable. But I’m not afraid of being vulnerable anymore. 🙂

Talking about composition, this blog post is amazing. It analyzes cinematography of The Incredibles in details, and it blew my mind. 🙂

By the way, I have started a fanpage on facebook. If you do have facebook also, please support <3.

So many things to write after awhile, maybe I should separate posts next time. 🙂

But still, I will make more comics and animations with emotion. 🙂

Gotham – The Penguin fanart Process

, , , , , ,

I have started watching this series Gotham, and fell in love with Robin Lord Taylor. I mean, it’s hard to explain; I like Oswald Cobblepot because of his freakiness, but I guess the impact is how the actor fits so well to the character.  And his mother too (Not the actor’s mother, of course, talking about Mrs. Kuble-poot)

Also Selena Kyle (Cat) has such irresistible charm, and I really like her angelic voice.

Another other reason I am looking forward to watch more of Gotham is because Morena Baccarin is announced to be in the series. I mean, IF YOU LOVE FIREFLY, YOU GOTTA HAVE THE SAME MOTIVES AS ME RIGHT!? If you haven’t watched the series Firefly, you need to.

I have planned to make fanart of the Serenity crews, but for now I only have a draft of Inara – Morena Baccarin. Oh she is such a beauty. It is actually hard to pick a favorite character in the series, maybe the captain.

Oh. Here is The penguin’s process

Screen Shot 2014-10-22 at 1.00.12 AM

First super draft just to grasps the feelings of him, how i perceive the character.

And the line, values, and so on. He looks too evil so I kinda changed that. The Penguin for now seems more like a minor Villain that doesn’t make much damage, but wait for it, wait for it…

This is what I was doing before. Practicing how light bounces and such. These simple exercises help a lot 🙂

Alice in wonderland + Sherlock Holmes = ?

This is not going to be anything exciting. Just saying 🙂 I hope Alice in wonderland and Sherlock Holmes fans are not going to flip the table. If you do, make sure you have no food spilled.

Light and color have always been fascinating for me, always, so I just wanted to draw something to practice.

Without any reason, I just wanted to draw a rabbit. So, there, a rabbit inspired by Alice in wonderland. And I was thinking of Sherlock (recently watched the series, amazing) so I thought – a trench coat.

Some of you might have something in mind, some might not. But I had no idea until my facebook friends told me that

Wait, what. Why? – I asked Google images.

This is just strange. I don´t watch Dr. Who. I have never even seen this poster.

Just thought it was a bit odd. Is this idea too mainstream or what?

Hell. I could have just used this poster as a reference if I knew it existed.

Update: I’m back to The Netherlands! 🙂

and the Phantom Night crews are going to be in Tomofair on Sat, Oct 4

Ohhh how much I miss conventions. 🙂 Hope to see a lot of friends there!

Fridge on fire

, , , , ,

I love food. (as you can see.)

But that´s not the reason why I start having obsession with fridges.

What is a fridge to you?

Sure we keep food for survival reasons,

but for me, it means more than just that.

Screen Shot 2014-08-29 at 8.18.37 PM

At least we can all agree on one thing: An empty fridge makes us feel empty.

I might be weird enough to think too much about food in the fridge,

but if it makes me feel warm in my guts,

why not?

There´s nothing wrong loving to open a fridge.

Unless the food smells bad, start growing fur and is ready to crawl out,

then you might need help.

Shower thought: Many people (including me) tend to open the fridge when they forget the purpose of visiting the kitchen.

The secure feeling our fridges give must have something to do with this… Maybe?

How would you describe “Darkness”?

Hola chicos 🙂

To be honest I am-not-supposed-to have time to write blog because I have tons of University stuff to work on, but blogging is the best way to procrastinate without feeling guilty 😉 So here we go!

You learn eventually that, while there are no villains, there are no heroes either.

Darkness from Koyo Do on Vimeo. Shot with Pentax K01.

This is an assignment from school in which each student is given a word (or actually we did a lottery from a list of 14 words) to create an abstract video explaining it.

My word was “Darkness”.

And yeah, I know my actress is gorgeous and mysterious >:D

Lola Suleimanova, follow her Instagram! She will be on Vogue cover in no time so don’t miss the chance to see this girl grow bright and shine 😉

Screen Shot 2014-05-06 at 6.24.32 PM

Anyway, though nobody understood the video, I am proud of how it looks =D

Or did you understand it somehow in your way? Then let me know! I am curious of what this video made you feel =)

My classmates did awesome jobs on the words they got

Like this Inga Smirnova’s video about Time

Simply love it ❤

I will update more of my friend’s works later when I have them 😉

Boring part down here 😀 About the video

First I was planning to get helium and fill the room with balloons but I couldn’t get it (later I acknowledged that nobody sells you helium because it’s dangerous, unless you have a license D:)

The windows did the great jobs, we didn’t know that the location was so pretty (it’s the actress’ room)

Screen Shot 2014-05-06 at 6.17.58 PM

Don’t you love the colors casting on the smoke?

Screen Shot 2014-05-06 at 6.10.53 PM Screen Shot 2014-05-06 at 6.11.42 PM

I am not sure if you noticed, but I think there were some problem with the camera. The white balance was not automatic, but the color were changing by itself when the balloons are climbing up the bed from 0:34-0:37, but doesn’t matter XD

P/s: Next post is about ‘Love’, with a lot of comics, so if you are curious… stay with me! :’3

WOW! Aging Was Just Successfully Reversed in Mice; Human Trials Are Up Next

This is crazy! Now there will be real Benjamin Button? 😀

Higher Learning

David Sinclair is a gerontologist (scientist who studies aging) from the University of New South Wales. He has been leading a team of researchers attempting to slow or stop the degenerative effects of aging in mice.

Sinclair was optimistic about their most recently tested compound, but even he was shocked by how successful it was:

“I’ve been studying aging at the molecular level now for nearly 20 years and I didn’t think I’d see a day when aging could be reversed. I thought we’d be lucky to slow it down a little bit. The mice had more energy, their muscles were as though they’d be exercising and it was able to mimic the benefits of diet and exercise just within a week. We think that should be able to keep people healthier for longer and keep them from getting diseases of aging.”

*Awkward laugh* hehehe…

Long time no see, people 🙂 I know that I haven’t been updating at all, but I recently decided to be more active online.
For any of you who are interested, since I disappeared from the blog, I was doing internship in Japan as a Storyboard intern at Qreazy. It was high volume workload, but definitely was awesome, and was definitely worth it.

I learned a lot, from technical skill, to communication skills. Although I was entitled “Storyboard Intern”, I was working on not only storyboards, but also concept art, background art, 3d modeling, 3d character animation, visual effects. Since it was a small company, and thanks to my boss I had a great chance to challenge myself in a lot of things.

After my internship period has finished, my minor (Something like Erasmus/exchange study) began-

and guess where I am! Barcelona 🙂 I am currently following Motion Graphic course.

Here’s my first video assignment… “Create video of your one day”. So here I shall present to you – me, in no effort of trying to look best in a video which will likely exist for at least the next 2 decades. (I was too lazy to do “real” make up )

Camera: Ougenedub,

Angel: Lola Suleimanova (polevayatrava) Follow this beauty on Instagram! 🙂

To be honest, peeps, I just wanted to be done with this assignment. All these footages were recorded in total 2,5 hours, I know, terrible 😛 I was too rushing to even care about the quality of these shots. (And for those who study film, you can see I have broken 180 rule in the store xD)

Frankly, the “story” makes me proud enough to not be ashamed of all the bad lightning, the awkward actor, the way-too-long-shots to share it with you guys 😀

In addition, since I broke one of Pixar’s story telling rules : Rule #19: Coincidences to get characters into trouble are great; coincidences to get them out of it are cheating. (they are precious rules, by the way!).

I’m talking about this scene where my angel with a donut walks by, without any reason, she turns around and gives me a donut. (Error 404: Logic Not Found).
I am still thinking and haven’t got to any conclusion of how to make this story better (by “better”, I mean “to not to break this rule”)

What do you guys think about this matter? I’d be happy if you share your thought! 🙂

P/s: I have been following Chris Oatley’s website, and it’s like a website you can never miss if you are on your way of breaking into animation/game industry. One of his artcasts has resulted me into a challenge – post a sketch every day, doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad. (To push myself to sketch more, obviously, and to stay active on the magical internet. 🙂 ) I always post it on Tumblr, and it automatically generates posts on Twitter. Just giving you heads up!

Challenge yourself something, from today!. :)Why?

Listen to Chris Oatley’s artcast about Artistic Growth Is NOT A Goal & How To Become An Early Riser :: ArtCast #58, because it’s a great motivation.

Dream it, achieve it 🙂

EDIT: my friend just told me that this podcast does NOT support the “sketch everyday” mentality, and probably I should listen to it again, more carefully… 😀 but to be honest I am feeling great and feeling like i’m improving with this challenge. For now I will keep doing it (I’ve been sketching everyday before too, but i never showed it to anybody. And by publishing my sketches everyday, it gives me a pressure to put more efforts.)

vs. human (I lost)

, , , , , , , , , , ,

Today was my first day in ages I went to a cosplay festival in Vietnam 🙂

It’s called “Negai Matsuri” (Festival of wishes), and it took place in a new ‘Mega Mall’ near my city.

I cosplayed my beloved Moemura (Moe Akemi Homura from Puella Magi Madoka Magica) :3

*whispers* I got this image from Google

I put quite a lot of effort into it… but because of lack of experience, my wig was a big mess and everything >///< had a lot of fun though! :3

As we talk about cosplay accessories, we always think about those epic stuff like electric guitars, swords, armors, etc.. But mine was…

The thingy that I borrowed from my dad while he was sleeping

The thingy that I borrowed from my dad while he was sleeping

Like this. Homura was using a golf club until she was used to her ability and knew how to use weapons. A lot of people do not notice this since in anime, they only showed her fighting with this ‘weapon’ for like 1min.

When I arrived to the festival, I noticed one thing while looking at other cosplayers’ “weapons”

Those are… Fake knives… Fake swords… Fake guns…

Darn, am I the only one who uses the ‘real weapon’?

…Am I gonna get kicked out by the securities?

Nobody thought it was for cosplay… As far as I heard from some people

So I just kept awkwardly walking around with a golf club, with a hope that somebody would get it… I even regretted that i brought the golf club…

OMG is it somebody who knows MoeMura???

I don’t even…

Arrest this badass…

Practicing light and mood

I had a big big honor to visit Pixar exhibition in Amsterdam, and you can’t believe how inspiring it is 🙂

After spending 3 hours (actually i wanted to spend more, but the exhibition closed T_T i should have gone there earlier!), it made me madly want to draw.

While i was visiting the exhibition, I realized something: “Wow, I lack so much the sense of lighting and mood. And these are important”.

The first images that hit me really hard was Daisuke “Dice” Tsutsumi‘s Toy Story color script.

Dice Tsutsumi’s color script

I learned from his images that expressing mood and lighting is very important, and in my whole life (well maybe that’s a bit exaggerating) I have been focusing in details and shapes.

So, right after visiting the exhibition, I tried out with lighting, color, and mood.

Oh and by the way, here’s the photo reference (you know, im not that good yet to create a scene with good lighting form my head >.<)

I had this in my hard drive and so sorry that I do not know who made this picture 😦 Sorry author!

I will keep practicing lighting and mood, it’s actually so much fun ^_^

By the way, I started recording screen whenever I draw. And surprisingly it was a good thing to do, because when i look at how I paint, I go like…

“That’s why when i paint it takes so much time…”

Thanks to this I could give feedback to myself and improve 🙂

So guys, if you draw, it is a good idea to record yourself drawing and then watch it yourself ^_^ I found it extremely useful!

I know it’s a boring post XD I promise I will make comic of my life and upload it as soon as possible 🙂
